Do you hate taxes?
In these times, we all want more money in our pockets, and taxes stand out as a place to cut since citizens can vote on this and we cant vote on the high cost of housing, food, and phones.
At the same time we want our potholes filled, our parks clean and no one sleeping on the streets. I am willing to pay the city to get those services.
But I want my tax dollars to deliver the best value. Things that are core to making the the city work well should not be privatized, they should be optimized, for both cost and quality control, and that includes professional services.
Are we spending money on the right thing? Toronto’s 2026 operating budget was $18.9 Billion. Its 10 year Capital Budget Plan is $63.1 Billion. Here’s an overview of the operating budget.
These services are necessary. Some of them also benefit the people who work here but do not live here. What Toronto needs is more ways to raise money, which may actually lower your taxes.
